I'm going to go to the program. Mandy called well. I had an echo to. Great. I'm thinking. Mandy, how are you today? Listen. I just rumbled in from a six hour drive. Which was more like a seven hour drive by the time I stopped for gas and spent 15 minutes at the gas station. I was just trying to get a little bit of a little bit of a boatway in like city and left without a burrito. I'm great. I'm great. I'm trying to write a sermon about turning the other cheek and I just can't. What? Trying to teach me a lesson and I don't want to learn it. I'm going to say it to you. Yeah. Sometimes you can. There we go. But it's a crazy week for both of us. I cannot wait to hear all about your week. First of all, I said it to you online. I'm going to say it to you to your face. Happy. Happy birthday to one of my favorite people. You bring so much joy to my life in the snarkiest, most wonderful way. I'm going to say it to you. You can't be so happy. You can't be so happy. It's not possible. And I cannot say how much I appreciate you. And just love you and your great sense of humor and the joy that you bring. Thanks, man. I have to tell you your face is frozen the whole time you're talking. Yeah. Yeah. Well, thank you. Yes. So I'm just returned from Anna Maria Island. My sister is a good friend. One her college dream mates family. And a couple of places on Anna Maria. And so. Ashley invited us to go. Enjoy one of the condos for the weekend on my birthday. So that was super fun. And had a great beach day on Saturday. And then Sunday just kind of tidal around. They got hit twice. Um, but uh, hurricanes. Last fall. So it's, you know, a little sad to see how many places are. No. Not down, but they are also coming back. So that's fun. So that was good. And then had a couple of good dinner. Went to our favorite place. Uh, Thai tables, which is in Cortez. Um, which the entire town is, is like on the national historic registry of places. It's an old fishing village. I love that. And if you ever want a fried fish. Namely, she should go to Cortez. Um, it is quite delicious. So, um, did all of that. And then, woke up on Monday, my actual birthday. And birch headed out. So it was just Kelly and my sister and me. And I was like, we, you know, we're only an hour from the brave spring training facility. Let's just guys see what we can find out. So we drove down. I thought it was like a big planned thing. It was spontaneous. Yes, you would think because my friend Casey sent with birch. Casey's mom makes beautiful cakes. And I got a coffee dart for my birthday. And it was a baseball. Um, so yeah, you would think it was a whole plan thing to think it was not. We just said, okay, let's get to see what it's all about. It was the day that all the like pictures and catchers had already reported. So this was like everybody's first official day. There, my school had gotten there early. Um, but it was everybody's first official day there. And you know, you just pull up and you just walk in that stadium. It's just as free as it can be. And we walked in and walked immediately behind home plate. Staying in there. I mean, first row behind and plate. Um, and first got there. Like we didn't recognize anybody taking bad and practice. But about that time a group came walking in from the outfield. And it was a Kenya and Aussie and early in the RCA. Um, some pray for our new outfielder. It was that whole crew. It was like the lost Bravo scurry. And they were at this time. Just cut not carry you know, having themselves a big time. So, um, I'm a photographer that I follow an Instagram and I was like, hey, I love your pictures. Uh, I mean, I heard somebody start talking. I heard somebody start talking and it was, uh, the guy who does like the official braves podcast. And I was like, ever, I think that's your voice, I want that. Just having. And so then that great finished their batting practice. And the next crew came in and it was Olsen and Riley. and moneymike and Jared Kellnick, like you know it was sort of everybody else. Other than the catchers and the pitchers they were obviously on another field somewhere. So we watched them take that in practice and then the first group had gone out into the outfield and say there were bunch of kids sort of down in the right field like there's a little spot where the ball met and they were kind of standing in that corner. So we just went out to the outfield and just started hanging out with the kids. I love that. Terry you know the all the players of the outfield and the shirt and off Aussie came over and we didn't have anything for anybody. But I just did Kelly was like this her birthday. Father. Anyway, I was like happy birthday. Then one of the little kids had called a ball that they had thrown over the fence and then he tried to get it to me. He tried to give me his ball. He said it's your birthday. And I found Kelly who cries, cried. It was a sweet. I was like where's your mama? Where is your mama? I'm gonna tell her how good you are. But he was there with her parents so I couldn't tell his mama. But all the kids were like it's her birthday. You know they just quit. Oh that's so sweet. There was a sweetest little boy down that like I couldn't ever actually say he might just hear me. He kept saying. Money Mike come over here. Throw me the ball. I love you money Mike. What's the biggest thing? I love it. So then the kids up near us started yelling. Money Mike is her birthday. So eventually money Mike came over and he had taken those kids had a jersey and they had not gotten anything signed by Aussie. He had walked off before they got their stuff signed. So I said give me that jersey. We'll get that thing signed. Yeah so I'm getting that. He told me happy birthday. And then a kid down for me gave Mike his phone. And he was like well you sign my phone case and he did and then he took a selfie with him. And I was like oh Mike can I get a selfie? It's like of course. So he took my phone and he took a selfie. Love it. I love it. I saw. Sure did. I get was it kill your sister took a picture of him taking a picture of you. It was real key. It was on your Instagram story. Yeah so it was super fun. I mean he was so nice. He was everything that you the way he wanted him to be. Good. And what we have also learned is that I cannot just like get an autograph from somebody. I have to be like Mike I'm so proud of everything you're doing with the foundation. You're doing such a great job. I'm so glad you're giving back the community. It's just so good to see so heartwarming. We just love that. He's like well thanks. Happy birthday. I love that. Oh just say this thing you should ever imagine. I love that. Like Aussie thank you for everything you do for all the pubs. It's just so heartwarming and he's like happy birthday. We went so the only one and about that time snicker was coming off the field. And so we hustled down there and I actually put his arm around me. Got my picture made with snit. Yeah that's like you just thank you so much you Bruce bring us so much joy. I said I know here I am it's weird I'm here with all the five year olds but you just need to know that you bring us all so much joy and thank you so much for recently speaking at Mercer. Oh my god you can't have so I could take the picture. I got to take a video good you wouldn't. This is my one chance to tell him how great he is to be and thank you. Oh my god. Sounds familiar. It was so fun. We were there for like I don't know maybe three hours and yeah it was great. It's highly recommended. You know like I've never been to an actual game. Kelly's been to a couple games and she was like yeah I mean that's fun too but you get there and you're like in a game situation. Yeah you know they might just walk it around and so I mean this was totally furry. They were just having a big time totally willing to come sign stuff so if y'all ever get the chance to do that I highly recommend it. It was super fun. Super fun. So that was great and then that night my sister had hired a private chef. Okay. All four of us at the London. So that was super fun. It was more food than any of us needed to eat. My Lord we were all stuffed. But that was great and then yesterday it was just Kelly left yesterday so it was just my sister and me. In true introvert fashion I was basically like just don't talk to me. Later like when we went to dinner to tide tables again I said I don't know why I've been so tired today. She's like perhaps you've been introverting and I was like oh well yeah perhaps I have. But anyway so yeah that was a great little weekend. Super fun brave stuff. And then I left left a memory this morning it was 80 degrees and drove up 75 and stopped just before I got on I 10 and when I stopped it had dropped to 55 degrees. Which was quite the change and now I am home and it is raining in 50 degrees. What is happening with our weather? It's cold here too. It's only in the 40s today. And raining. So weird but anyway I don't like it. But my improvement. My birthday present to myself was having someone come deep clean my house. Did you walk in and just did the did the angel sing? That is the move. Yeah although I will say you have she got me she deep cleaned out like she took stuff down off everything and so keep laughing look at her and seeing it all the things that are in a different place. And that right. But hey I'll take it. Yeah. Just I was like oh yeah I love it. So anyway very excited about that. But now Katie you've had a big week too. You tell us what's going to go. You got listen. When last we left there was a contemplation of receiving it to barn cats that happened. Thanks thanks thanks have happened. So please. Thanks. Thank you. Thank you. Feels yeah. There's so much. So Saturday night because I think Jesus hates Valentine's Day two. We had a terrible lot of storms come through. Sorry this is my cannery milling and I don't know how to turn it off. We had a terrible lot of storms come through Saturday night and early into Sunday morning on the 15th and I heard a pop it woke me up and I heard this pop and I thought it sounded like it was behind my house up at what they use as a ball field at the campground. Yeah. Turns out I was wrong about that. That being in the house made the noise sound like it was coming from a different direction. Turns out the straight line winds knocked a gigantic eight foot around pine tree down on the one structure that's on the national register of historic places here at the campground our tabernacle. It was you know startling to wake up to that. Fortunately it got the eaves which are pretty deep. So the most of the 150 year old hand-hearing beams are further in and we're not damaged. Thank goodness. Most of them. So it was preserved. We'll be able to fix it. Everything's fine but it was not the most pleasant way to wake up. No. And because of that we've had workmen here all week which is not normal either. We it has been quite the adventure and you know this place is so precious to everybody that lives around here especially. We had all these flicky loos coming to visit which was fine but you know you don't need to be crawling up under this structure that's just been hit by a tracer. Let's not do that. Yeah. Yeah. So there's that. But the other thing that the aftermath of this storm brought me was a dog. So my very first yes well she's been around for a while. My very first Sunday here they had a reception for me and I won't tell the reception later that night after I preached that morning and there was this sweet little honey color dog. But she had a collar on and I was like I said to somebody I can't remember who it was but I said to somebody I said that's the perfect size dog for me but that one has a collar on so I'm sure it belongs to somebody. Well she doesn't she's been on and off kind of hanging around but I think she got very scared during the storms and so therefore after church she attached herself to me and has not left my side since. Well there you go. So now we have honey. So I named her honey. She's got to be part Jack Russell Terrier because she jumps like a Jack Russell or ears flop over and she hops like a rabbit through the woods when she's chasing a squirrel. She doesn't have to be on a leash. She will not leave my sight like as long as she can see me she's fine but she does not like to leave me you know she's the sweetest she loves everybody she's afraid of big dogs but not in a violent way more in like a I don't give me away from here I don't want to be trampled by this big old dog kind of way it's just super sweet right um of course I took her to the vet this sweet what now that's that good oh yeah yeah it's all great she's the perfect dog um and then that's her the vet and I have a feeling she was dumped because um she has heartworms and hookworms um but it is she's underway she has been fixed and she's probably about four years old we'll post some pictures of her but she's got a lot of gray on her snout so the doctor was like I don't know she's her teeth tell me one thing but her face looks like she's old I guess she's just been stressed out and it kind of aged her um but she's about four years old she's just precious she's absolutely good yeah she'll start putting away which she gets her those hookworms yeah she does not like that treatment did she start the antibiotic yes she'll start heartworm yes so we started that today they didn't they gave her all her shot just today and they didn't want me to give her the antibiotic yesterday because they knew that was probably too much for a little system so we got all of our shots distemper all the things we did all the things I brought home heartworm preventative for so we don't get them again and I brought a hand flian tick um so we she took all that like a champ this morning and then um we had our little first antibiotic so there we get she'll do 30 days of that and then get her first injection from the upworms yep yep I have a great vet down here she's amazing she um is just so kind and fun she's you know I'm at the test too so there we go there's that um but they loved her just as much as I did she didn't yeah she didn't snap when they took blood or gave her a shot or anything she just stood there so it was great yeah so she's getting more comfortable there are certain things you can tell she was not um taken care of um obviously physically but then you can tell somebody hit her um just in the way she reacts like she refuses to go on the kitchen which you know a lot of people don't let their dogs in the kitchen and that's fine but you can tell it just it frightens her and um anyway but she's great she's so sweet and I just love her I just love her and then the next day the two barn cat showed up and immediately got out of the house and started screeching and rattling and which they're doing their job which is great so um they're eating mice so I went from zero to three animals in 24 hours have you seen any more mice um they have not gotten them all yet but I have not seen as many mice and I heard them two nights ago like getting after it so um I know they're getting them so you know have we named have we named the cats we have not and I thought it's a boy and a girl they they're all up to date on their shots because they came from another place so they didn't have to go the vet and once a year we'll just round them up and take them but um let's see um I was thinking about because we want them to be hunters I was thinking about um the gods of hunting which is um Diana and Artemis so art and Diana is what I was thinking oh I could yeah but then I was thinking like John and Susanna Wesley because their Methodist campground cats so I don't know yeah we haven't settled on that but honey is definitely honey so and she's answering to it already how has she seen the cats yes by its Marshall yes and everybody did run and hide everybody ran and hid and she chased them so that's fine I mean they um once they get the mice that are under the house we're gonna seal up the house and I've got a cat house for them so they will eventually have a safe warm place to be out of the elements but I need them to kill everything that's living under their first yeah that's what I need so we're gonna do that right yeah I mean we when I tell you we shout a wild week that's quite a week for sure we're not a wild week and it's only Wednesday yeah yeah so the other thing that I um have started and I missed the first meeting of it but I thought you would appreciate this Mandy and all our people out there in the world I think especially our female listeners which I mean we mostly are female listeners but um I am starting a book club with um fellow clergy women in South Georgia and it's not that we have started the book club to me I think every one of our neighborhoods or our cities should have a book club called the subversive women's book club that's the name of our book club and I'm so excited about it um this time we're reading Bishop Buddy's new book that is just come out um and so I'm very excited about that so that'll be good um but yeah I think some birds we need some subversive women and we um we need to read things that expand our horizons and I think that's um I think the more we join together and realize we're not alone out there the better will be because oh there's a lot going on in the world woo indeed woo indeed so anyway yeah so that's awesome what's happening in my world mainly I know that you have already you had a big like dinner cooked for you and all the things but you have come up with something for us for your food so tell us about it yeah so I stopped at Trader Joe's on the way down um and just bought all the dips I love it all the for girl dinner I love that so yeah so the first night we just all grazed on all that um and I got the whipped feta at Trader Joe's yeah I haven't tried that one I have to say that's a nice stalking um I got in the loaf of black bear bread um I've actually gotten too a lot of black bear bread and that black bear bread that sourdough bread tasted with some of that whipped feta with some and I didn't have slow roasted tomatoes but some slow roasted tomatoes on top of that listen it's time for me to make another batch of that shit sorry yeah that would be some nice talking um so yeah next time you're trying to jose I will pick up some whipped feta the other thing we did that was super easy is um I had my sister get a rotisserie chicken at publics and then I had gotten this is actually a carrot chamber trick I had gotten some uh tatsiki at your jose and just mixed you know shredded the rotisserie chicken and mixed it with the tatsiki that was also good um I love it and they even have I think a Greek yogurt tatsiki that's or maybe the I don't remember yeah I'm seeing where it's better for you so I love it yeah so this will be my recommendations yay I love that well um mainly we um put out the call for fan favorites and um my friend kacy answered that call because I called her because she she is like the skincare queen she is our age right around our age but she looks a lot younger and so that's who I call about all my skincare needs I like it it's a good plan and so I told her what we were looking for we were looking for something that was for sensitive skin um and that had spf in it and that was an everyday thing that didn't take a lot of effort and she combines two tinted moisturizers uh and uses those every day without fail and um I know I know this because I've asked her this before is she also gets the elf um blush that's like a liquid blush and mixes it in so it gives you a little more depth on your skin care not that I'm doing that today because I'll look like death today um but um and I've given that tip before but um those are the two spf things that she uses are the two tinted moisturizers and I'm going to since I'm done with what I've got in my drawer I'm gonna get both of those things and use them are you gonna tell us what they are? oh yeah they're the face shield flex spf 50 it's a tinted matte sunscreen uh and I linked not the like we're trying to do I linked not the amazon link but the actual company I think you can get all these are ultra though so there's also Ulta and then um she uses the skin better science tone smart spf 75 mineral sunscreen and the tone smart is the part that it's tinted I think that you got something on your color science yes um I think my sister may use that um and I have borrowed hers before and it's sort it's one of those that like it's sort of like that purple lipstick we used to put on and it would change color on their lips it comes out looking very white but then when you put it on it sort of matches I'll like I think it does come in different times but that's a good thought I have to use that of my sisters before and my eyes have not well she does and I'm gonna order little squirts like one of each um I love that I'll try those I'm also gonna order some sunscreen from a then I'm waiting I'm hoping they will they're at a stop for my favorite um eye cream and as much as my eyes have been watering from the sunscreen this making my eyes water um um all that standard arises so irritated yeah um that I'm hoping we will get that eye cream back so I'm trying to hold off on my order until they get my eye cream on but it has not happened in the past several weeks I may just have to go ahead and pull the trigger so there we go I'm gonna try that too yeah awesome options yeah well maybe what are you gonna do with the rest of your week my friend while I'm gonna recover I'm gonna recover the introverted try and listen if anybody knows if anybody knows a lawyer in wake Ross who would like to take a case the good news is I do not have to drop to wake Ross tomorrow oh oh I do not have to be wake Ross at nine o'clock at the morning hey man well here's my here's my challenge in life is I knew that I got a notice of a calendar call for February 20th when I had not done it in my mind is assimilate the fact that the 20th is third today so when I figured that out when I was driving oh Friday I was like ooh I might should see about that so you know I talked to the nice clerk and she said oh no you don't have to come you just need to send me something right but I love what the status of the day right so I send all Lisa an email and girl we're good to go I love that um yeah so I don't have to be there but godly I'm having a real hard time finding somebody to take over this case because you know I don't litigate and I sure don't litigate in wake Ross from Santa Rosa Beach I don't know wake Ross attorneys like I know other places sorry yeah sorry sorry anyway I'm working on that um well while we're pitching things if anybody knows a pianist who lives close to Diana Georgia that's not a Mercer student because that did not go well uh what did their name broke up on me a Mercer student we do not want another Mercer student sorry Mercer yeah you broke up on me again Mercer the Bears we do not want another Mercer Bayer yeah yeah I've gotten that three times I miss the first part we we are looking for a pianist pianist okay I thought you said a dentist no no no it was not a Mercer student I was worried about you going to a Mercer student dentist but again since Mercer doesn't have a dental school no I don't yeah yeah yeah that I was worried okay a pianist got it yeah so if you know anybody plays a piano and lives within a reasonable amount of distance from Diana Georgia send them my way okay that's the other thing that's been happening this week what else is happening this week um well this week is the week Mandy it's the week where in fact I just got a text from a friend of mine that's also going before the United Methodist South Georgia Conference Board of Ordean Ministry on Monday um and we are talking about how we want to vomit because we have not had that much time to prepare so we're gonna have to lock ourselves in happening Monday so happening all Monday all day Monday all day Monday I get to sit in front of the three panels and defend myself and my work so you got it I know you're in about Jesus for two I know I want to I'm I have said this I'm confident in my call I know my call does not depend on the outcome of this meeting on Monday um but it's a really daunting thing that you're going to get that yeah I hear you yeah yeah so I remember taking the bar exam like yeah my entire future hinges on the next two days yep exactly so um if you are a person that says prayer if you would pray for me on Monday um I absolutely I really I'm very I had some great readers that read it before I turned it in so I'm very confident in my work and and um and my calling and my theology so I'll be fine well good um so that'd be smart yeah right that's coming up but I'm gonna bore a little miss and she's gonna get a bath and get her toes done and they're going you know groomer a little bit while I'm gone um and she'll have some puppies her own sauce to play with and some people little lover so um I'll be excited to get her back all clean and nice as she sleeps next to me she says wait good good all right we will definitely say a prayer for you thank you yes and the meantime I got to write a sermon about turning the other cheeks if y'all could add that in I'd appreciate it because I don't want to I mean I feel like you can pivot yeah I gotta figure it out oh man it's hard right now turn on the other cheek yep I found some good sojourner truth if you don't know who's sojourner truth as you should google her um but I found some good quotes by sojourner so I will probably be quoting her um because you don't know who that is she was a um a preacher she was a preacher right after the time of slavery and she could not read um or write but she could preach and she was an amazing human being and if you've never read anything that was written down that she said then you absolutely should um and um so anyway sojourner truth might save the day for me okay well good you wouldn't be the first person none all right all right friends we all have a great week and we will see you back next week and hopefully I'll be provisional elder Katie Griffiths
